Duterte orders dismantling of police checkpoints nationwide

President Rodrigo Duterte’s speech ordered all checkpoints nationwide to be dismantled unless if it’s really necessary and only if there is a specific reason, October 29.
Travel delays in Mindanao are caused by the security checkpoints of the Philippine Army, Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front, and the Philippine National Police, Duterte pointed out.
The President also said checkpoints are necessary if there is an information that a big target or suspect might cross a certain road.
He quoted “ngayon kung may suspect ka ganon tapos alam mo dadaan, there is a possibility or A1 information pero king mag-ano lang kayo ng checkpoint diyan, baka meron baka wala, ‘wag yan, and that’s for the entire country.

According to the President, checkpoints are useless if there is no particular purpose, and it only causes disturbances to the lives of Filipino people.
After the market bombing in Davao City last month, checkpoints nationwide were ordered by PNP chief Director Bato dela Rosa to secure vital installations.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said he will seek for clarification regarding this announcement from the President.
Abella told GMA News Online over the phone that he will clarify.
Further, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) explained that checkpoints are part of law enforcement functions of the PNP.
