ABS-CBN to PAGASA: Not our intention to hurt or demean the agency

Jokes are half-meant true.

After the controversial episode of a kid’s gag show, Television network ABS-CBN extends its apologies to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) employees.

Last Sunday, TV show “Goin Bulilit” threw a joke in their episode involving weather forecasts which are unreliable in a context that a child actor gave a different meaning to the acronym “Pagasa.”

The meaning given to the said acronym was “Palaging Guess At ‘Lang Saktong Announcements,” which loosely translates to wild guesses and incorrect announcements.

While the media defenses that the said acronym was in the context of a joke and should not be deemed as a fact or criticism.

A day after the episode had been aired the Philippine Weathermen Employees Association (Pagasa union) demanded a public apology from the producers of the comedy show for insulting the weather bureau and encouraging people that their forecasts are unreliable.

ABS-CBN representative said, “It was not our intention to hurt or demean the agency and we apologize to the employees of Pagasa who may have been offended by the joke that we aired.”
