Anti-Marcos journalist’s account shuts down by Facebook

A verified personal Facebook account of veteran journalist has been shut down by Facebook on Monday, November 29, 2016.

Inday Espina Varona, journalist for decades now said “Today, I find myself blocked with this notice,” referring to a facebook notice stating her profile is under review.

Espina-Varon is known for her hard-hitting commentaries and most recently on the blitzkrieg interment of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani that gain a lot of opinions from netizens.

The journalist’s account was blocked a day after she wrote to Facebook executives about the status of complaints against online harassment on Facebook.

Varon also said that on the said night, she wrote the biggest social networking platform executives and their marketing arm in the country to inquire about the large number of complaints against her over online harassment two weeks ago.

Inday’s commentaries has been recognized in the political spectrum and known for her patience for online political discourses.

She also added that she doesn’t want to accuse of speculate as to the reason why her Facebook account was blocked.

Espina-Varon posted on her Twitter account "I was part of a cozy round-table two weeks ago... Invited by their [Facebook's] marketing team on the issue of netizen protection,” which she believes an irony of what happened to her.
