Elenita Binay gets acquittal from overpricing case

Former Makati Mayor Lenita Binay and two alleged accomplice were acquitted by the Sandigan Bayan after being charged of overpricing for purchasing office furniture worth P13.25M during herm term on Tuesday, November 17.

The failure to establish the elements of conspiracy among defendants made the graft court’s Fourth Division decide for acquittal.

Earlier, Binay’s lawyer argued that the subject transaction was purely a repeated order which leads to the fact that no rules from the public bidding requirement had been violated.

Together with Binay were former city councilor and general services chief Ernesto Aspillaga and private defendant Vivian edna Edurise, Office Gallery International Inc. representative also both received acquittal.

The said acquittal has been the second one and the first was dated on November 4 which is also a case of graft in connection with the alleged rigged bidding of the purchase or furniture and office prtitions in 2000 during her term.

Elenita is the better-half of Vice President Jejomar Binay who was a candidate for the Presidential seat last May 2016 elections.
