Family holds wake for slain mayor in Leyte

The wake of slain Albuera Mayor, Rolando Espinosa took place in his home at Barangay Timog.

His first night of wake was attended by the mayor’s relatives and his neighbors that went peacefully as reported by GMA news.

Date of interment has not yet finalize since the family is still waiting for relatives to come home to pay their last respects, the report added.

Lawyer Lanie Villarino quoted on Sunday that Espinosa was “overkilled” as autopsy report came out which showed he sustained four gunshot wounds, after being shot three times with one of the bullets went through his body.

Charges against the police officers involved in the “firefight” are still in review, Villarino added.

Espinosa was reported killed on Saturday morning after operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Region 8, headed by Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, went to the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City to serve search warrants on Espinosa and drug suspect Raul Yap for separate cases.

According to Laraga, he claimed that two inmates shoot them first, which prompted to shoot back.

Meanwhile, the family of Espinosa believes that his knowledge about other narco politicians and officials is connected to his death.

Espinosa submitted a notebook to the Ormoc Regional Trial court last September 7 containing the list of people and some retrieved checks from Rogelio Bato.

Chief Insp. Jovie Espindo expressed his dismay at the death of Espinosa as her questioned the team which served the search warrant without proper coordination.

On the other hand, the CIDG answered they did the operation before dawn to guarantee success.
