Marcos family will respect SC decision on Ferdinand E. Marcos LNMB burial

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos made assurance that her family will respect any decision from the Supreme Court (SC) on the petitions seeking to block a hero’s burial for the late President, Ferdinand Marcos.

Ruling on the petitions will be release today, November 8.

Some petitioners and SC sources told Rappler only 5 justices were certain to block the burial wherein at least 8 votes are needed to turn down the order of Presdient Rodrigo Duterte for Marcos’s burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNB).

However, the Ilocos Norte governor downplayed some reports that majority of SC Justice would rule in favor of the Marcoses.

"Di ako naniniwala sa ganyan eh! Dahil unang-una, 'yang mga hula-hulang ganyan, nakakamalas eh! Mas maigi na lang magdasal at isipin na sa puno't dulo, ang batas pa rin ang mangingibabaw," quoted Imee.

She added her family is not really speculating, and they are only waiting for the ruling to come out and quoted President Duterte to follow what Supreme Court will say.

Deliberation has been extended twice and in that span of time, pro- and anti-Marcos groups conducted rallies, vigils, and concerts.

Imee joined herself in a Pray for Pr8 (Pro-8) movement by the Marcos Loyalist and marched from Rajah Sulayman Park in Malate to SC, where she led a candle-lighting ceremony.

United team BBM, Kabataang Barangay, Marocs Loyalists (Cavite, Quezon City, Manila, Pasay, Paranaque, Bulacan), Friends of Imelda R. Marcos, Tamaraw Riders, Maharlika groups, BBM Youth Movement, Apo Group, and Helping Hands Organization stayed overnight in front of Supreme Court.

One of Duterte’s promises during the campaign period is the hero’s burial for Marcos at the LNB.

This move has been opposed by human rights activists and Martial Law victims, and made petitions to the High Court. Joining them is the National Historical Commission of the Philippines citing the fraudulent act of Marcos.

SC justices were urged by Duterte to discard emotion as a basis in their decisions, and he would respect the decision of the high court.

Meanwhile, Imee and other Marcos loyalists that Marcos burial will be the turning point for the Filipino people to move on from the past.

"Sana bigyan na lang natin ang kagustuhan ng nakararami, kung anuman ang hatol ng Supreme Court ay sumang-ayon tayo. At dapat 'yun nga, 'yung sinasabi namin dati, ilibing na [si Marcos] para maghilom na, magkaisa na, at mag-move on na ang Pilipinas," emphasized the governor.
