Robin Padilla receives pardon from President Duterte

Robin Padilla finally receives pardon from President Rodrigo Duterte during their meeting on Tuesday, November 15 at the Malacañang Palace.

Duterte confirms in a dinner interview with reports that Padilla already receives a pardon because the first one didn’t specify full restoration on political and civil rights which block his freedom to travel and to possess a gun.

"I really do not know the dimension of of what is meant by deprivation of political and human rights. But one thing is that you cannot vote, you cannot travel and therefore he could not be issued a passport," Duterte added.

He further explained that the crime Padilla has committed did not harm any person and made him suffer for long. The will to travel, enjoy, gun license application are not allowed if an individual is being deprived from full civil and political rights.

Padilla was surprised because his knowledge is only limited in meeting the president until the papers for his clemency were already ready when he arrived.

In 1994, Padilla was convicted for illegal possession of firearms causing him a 21-year prison term. He began to serve the term after the ruling was upheld by the Court of Appeals in 1995.

Former President Fidel Ramos granted Padilla a conditional pardon in 1997.

Padilla, an avid supporter of Duterte was one of the individuals recommended by the Board of Pardons and Parole for executive clemency last August 2016.
