Bonifacio Day turns to a protest day for Anti-Marcos groups

Yesterday could have been the 153rd birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, however this commemorative day turned to a national day of protest as thousands of anti-Marcos protesters assembled in Mendiola, Manila on Wednesday, November 30 to show opposition on the hero’s burial given to the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

An estimated 1200 people were present according to Senior Insp. Leonardo De Guzman of mNila Police District Station 8.

The protesters said they intended to do the mass rally on the same day with Bonifacio day to show who the real hero is.

An effigy of the late Marcos lying in a coffin seemingly being plowed with the use of shovel was also displayed.

Gary Granada, a veteran singer also join the demonstration and offered a song to the protesters.

Elecer Carlos, spokesperson of human rights group iDefend exclaimed that they are also fighting for their rights not just condemning the Marcos burial.

“These are the concerns of the labor movement. Yung pagpapatotoo talaga ni President Duterte to fully end contractualization, hindi selective ang contractualization,” Carlos added.

Wages and safer working conditions for workers are also included in their protests.

The said rally was a continuation of the November 25 “grand rally” at the Luneta Park.
