Free tuition fee for SUCs effects next year

Free education. This cry of the mass is now answered after 8.3 billion will be granted to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) next year which will enable free tuition fee in all state universities and colleges (SUC).


In an interview, CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan said the 8.3B initially for the projects in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has been reallocated to their agency.

Senator Sonny Angara confirmed this news on his social media account saying “We just voted to include in 2017 budget yesterday,” pertaining to the 8B
Blogger Tonyo Cruz also tweeted “If confirmed, free tuition at SCUs could be 2016’s best news for the nation’s peasant and working class families.”

However, the 8-B budget will only cover the tuition fee and would exclude miscellaneous expenses like laboratory fees.

The additional CHED budget was part of the P3.35-T proposed budget for 2017 and the President is expected to sign it after his official travel.
