Gordon to De Lima’s award: She’s just fishing to gain credibility

Senate Committee Chairman for Justice Richard Gordon discredited the award given to Senator Leila de Lima as one of the leading global thinkers for 2016, pointing out the lady senator was just fishing to gain credibility.

In an interview on Wednesday, December 14, Gordon emphasized that the United States government where De Lima received her award may be behind the said “prestige.”

“Baka naman nakikialam na Amerikano dito dahil galit sila sa nangyayari. Alam mo we should not allow other countries to intervene,” he said.

Senate committee on justice chairman even said  that the sponsor for the award does investigation too, however if they present an award to a person involved in a hot issue, the person would use this to prove his or her credibility.

“Alam ko naman yung laro na 'yan. Kung ako abogado ni De Lima, ganun din gagawin ko eh. Bibigyan ko siya ng recognition abroad,” Gordon said.

Gordon even questioned the credibility of the awarding body saying he isn’t even familiar with it.

Senator Gordon and Senator De Lima have been on the same boat over the investigation of extrajudicial killings incidents committed during the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

Meanwhile, De Lima received an award for standing up to an extremist leader as one of the 13 global thinkers in the Challengers category.

The citation mentioned “Since taking office in June, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has waged a brutal war on drugs. Thousands of alleged traffickers, dealers, and users have been executed by state forces or pro-government vigilantes.”

Among the FP’s 100 Leading Global Thinkers for 2016 are individuals and organizations that have championed worthy causes.
