Lacson urges Chief Bato Dela Rosa to form special task group on vigilante killings

Senator Panfilo Lacson urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) to think about forming a special task group to address the unsolved cases of death under investigation or vigilante-type killings on Monday, December 12.

PNP chief Director General  Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was asked to create a task group consisting intelligence and investigative police officers.

“Sa ngayon masyadong maliit ang rate ng solution. We want to see a more vigorous, more vigilant effort on the part of the PNP and NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) and the entire government, in addressing ang mga vigilante killings kasi nakakaalarma na rin,” Lacson said.

The senator also expressed his worries over which 2/3 of the overall number of killings were caused by vigilantes and riding in tandem.

According to official PNP data, out of 3524, only 1081 incidents of DUI were reported from July 1 to November 30 and all related to illegal drugs.

The chairman of public order committee said public’s perception towards the recent rampant killings will remain negative until the PNP does something about it.

He also added the government needs a long term plan and solution for this.

Earlier, Lacson filed a committee report along with senate justice committee chairman Richard Gordon said there is no proof they could see that the recent incident of killings are sponsored by the state.

However, Lacson speculated that the statement is not conclusive.

‘Yung sinasabi lang sa report, so far walang evidence to show na state-sponsored o may alam ang pangulo sa nangyaring pagpatay, But kung may bagong ebidensyang lalabas na may kinalaman pala ang state o preisdente mismo, pwede naman ma-correct 'yan in the course of time,” he added
