Artwork of a DLSU student showing Pia, Maxine goes viral

An artwork of a college student went viral after making an emotional moment between two beauty queens into a touching piece of art.

Neal Anday, an art student of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde uploaded his painting on social media portraying Pia Wurtzbach comforting Maxine Medina after Median didn’t make it to the final cut of the Miss Universe 2016 competition held on Janaury 30.

The artwork stunned Vice Ganda, a comedian who has more than 4 million followers on Instagram and reposted the photo on the official Facebook Page of the Binibing Pilipinas Pageant, garnering thousands of likes and shares.

The image represents an urge to unite Filipinos and to stop bashing Medina for her answer during the pageant’s Q & A round.

The painting depicts Wurtzbach and Medina sharing a hug in their blue and red gowns respectively which was based on a real photo taken by pageant mentor Jonas Gaffud.

To complete his artwork, Alday added a splash of yellow to create a halo effect, as well as stars which symbolizes the Philippine Flag.

Alday said in an interview that he’s been practicing since he was a kid, and wanted to express  both his disappointment over Medina's loss and the hope that arises from setbacks.

"I haven't chosen a title yet but 'Solidarity' has a nice ring to it, so that's that. I mean, even Maxine's message is, 'We are one' — win or lose,” Alday added.
