Robredo on death penalty bill second reading: Medyo nakakabahala, nakakalungkot

Vice President Leni Robredo expressed her concern on the swift process in which the death penalty bill was passed on second reading in the House of Representatives during her visit to Maribojoc Bohol, March 2.

"Medyo nakakabahala, nakakalungkot. Dahil yung pag-reimpose kasi ng death penalty hindi naman ito basta-basta na polisya ng ating gobyerno," VP said on her speech.

She also said that this bill will not only change the rule of law for our land but also our belief as a country.

The bill was passed via viva voce on its second reading last March 1.

"Sa akin naman, nararapat din sana na isang napakahalagang piece of legislation, magkaroon ng masusing debate, masusing talakayan. Kung ano yung kabutihan o hinding idudulot ito,"  Robredo said to the lawmakers.

Robredo also emphasized that the process was too fast  and no empirical data was presented to support the provisions.
