Columnist on Duterte's Martial Law decision says it will make or break his seat

The Philippine Star Columnist Babe Romualdez said in his article the Martial Law Declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte in Mindanao will either make or break his presidency.

Romualdez compared the decision of Rody to late Ferdinand Marcos' about martial law saying the later president declared it to sustain his slogan "sa ikauunlad ng bayan, disiplina ang kailangan."

According to this columnist, Rody might have imposed this for peace and security reason but several actors in development can see this a negative point for the country.

For instance, The Philippine Hotel Owners Association headed by Arthur Lopez thinks this could affect the tourism industry in Mindanao. "We have getting a lot of bad publicity anyway all these kidnappings in the south."

On the other hand, Arthur admired Rody for his decision to end insurgency in the south.

Meanwhile, Romualdez said this Martial Law decision is no longer just a story like what he usually said but it is now real.

"This time, however, President Rody's martial law declaration is no longer just a story. It is for real. He has promised tatapusin ko yan. This is the story people want to hear from the man they voted for. Ultimately, it is also the story that could make or break his presidency," He added.
