VP Robredo thinks Duterte’s impeachment case is doomed: he’s too popular

She’s not an administration ally but for Vice President Leni Robredo, she believes the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte won’t prosper.

Facing reporters, the VP said on May 15 has killed the prospect of success of the impeachment complaint filed against Duterte at the same time the House justice committee was deliberating on it.

She emphasized Rodrigo is too popular for this issue.

“Tingin ko hindi siya magpo-prosper in the sense na ang impeachment naman is a political process, ang ating Pangulo very popular,” said Robredo.

The VP added that base from the statements given by house members, only few willsupport the complaint.

“Kung babasehin natin sa statements ng mga members ng House, mukhang kaunti ang support na makukuha nito.”

Robredo on the other hand also said it was still important to tackle the complaint filed by Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano to comply with the due process of law.

“Mahalaga pa din ang proseso, kasi ito ay bahagi ng democratic institutions natin, democratic processes.”

The justice committee declared Alejano’s complaint is insufficient in substance in a unanimous decision, saying the representative has failed to prove he has personal knowledge of the impeachable offenses he accused Duterte of committing.
