Watch how DSWD Secretary responds on Sotto’s remark “Na-ano lang” in a professional manner

The confirmation of Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo created a clamor in social media after Senator Tito Sotto gave a controversial remark to her for having children out of wedlock, on May 3.

During the confirmation hearing of Taguiwalo before the Commission on Appointments, Sneate Majority Leader Sotto gave his remarks that draw different reactions from netizens.

Sotto asked about the personal life of Taguiwalo specifically her life as a mother.

“Just on the lighter side, senator Drilon and I were looking at the personal info about you. You have two children- daughters or sons?” Sotto asked.

Taguiwalo answered she has two daughters. Sotto counted her with a follow up question “But you’re single?”

The DSWD secretary in an honest note answered Sotto directly that she never had a whole father-mother-children kind of thing except her childhood in Bacolod.

“Ah okay, my life has never been a normal one. I never had a whole father-mother-children kind of thing, except when I was growing up in Bacolod. Remember I graduated from UP in 1970, I did organizing work. From 1972 up to 1986, it has been a life underground or in prison. So well, my story would be different from the stories of those who have gone through corporations, etcetera,” said Taguiwalo.

Sotto however on his next statement left a thought which has been the controversial thing up to now. It actually brought soft laughter from the audience during the hearing.

“in the street language, you have a children and you are single, ang tawag dun eh na-ano lang. Thank you. You have my 100% support,” stressed Sotto.

On her last note, Taguiwalo professionally answered Sotto that despite that fact, she respect all kinds of families which includes the solo parents.

“Senator Sotto, I teach women’s studies. We respect all kinds of families and that includes solo parents. Thank you,” Judy concluded.
