Duterte warns communist leaders abroad regarding their arrest

President Rodrigo Duterte warned communist leaders residing outside the country regarding the possibility of their arrest, in yet another sign of wavering ties between the two sides.

Duterte emphasized he will initiate their arrest once they come during his speech in the wake of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ criticism against his decision to place Mindanao under Martial Law due to the Marawi Siege .

“I’m warning the leaders who are taking to representatives of my government. Do not attempt to come home. I will arrest all of you and throw you to the slammer,” said Duterte.

The CPP said it will heavily oppose martial rule and ordered its military wing, the New People’s Army (NPA) to ramp up its operations and intensify its recruitment.
The communist group’s call did not sit well with the government peace panel, led by Silvestre Bello III.

This prompted the government peace panel to suspend its 5th round of talks with the communist leader in the Netherlands.

On the other hand, National Democtratic Front’s chief political consultant Jose Maria Sison, asked the CPP to reconsider its call. However, his call did not prevent Duterte from slamming the CPP founder and the rest of the communist leaders.

DUterte added the communist rebels may even soon be seen as irrelevant because of the growing threat from the terrorist who were inspired by the Islamic State.

“For all the bravado, they never occupied even a barangay for 24 hours yet in the talks, it’s all full of hubris. Kung manalo ba ang ISIS sa Pilipinas, may papel ba kayo sa mundong ito? You will be marginalized and outcast because your form of government is always anathema to the rest of the religion zealots in this world," he said.

He said they are wasting their time. “Kayong mga komunista, you are just wasting your time. You cannot prevail over government of the Republic of the Philippines. Neither can you find a sanctuary under a communist rule.”

Earlier this year, the President has ordered the release of several communist leaders so they can be participants in the peace negotiations.
