Win Gatchalian defends Bam Aquino on Marawi meeting rumor

Senator Win Gatchalian defended his colleague, Senator Bam Aquino from allegations of Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguire II that he had collaboration with the Maute group in Marawi siege.

Gatchalian said Aquino’s claim was true since they bumped into each other at the airport in Cagayan de Oro on May 19.

“Nagku-kwentuhan kami and kasama ni Sen. Bam yung mga youth leaders from Marawi City. Wala naman akong  nakitang any other people other than the youth group. I doubt it kung si Sen. Bam is linked to this whole thing. Personally, I don’t think it’s possible. Magkakasama kami during that time,” he said in an interview with reporters.

Gatchalian added that people should be cautious in linking people especially that it could damage the reputation of the person.

“At the end it will boil down to evidence. I think we should also be very careful with linking people with whatever instances dahil masisira yung reputation nung tao kung wala naman connection. Let’s be fair. Kung wala namang connection mahirap naman I link kung sino man sa mga pangyayari. At the end it will boil down kung anong evidence and hawak,” Gatchalian added.

The senator was in Cagayan de Oro for a cooperative general assembly.

Meanwhile, Aquino’s presence in Marawi City for the launching of the first Negosyo Center in ARMM was confirmed by the Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez.
