The ex-senator became the counsel of Marcos in her first attendance to the House of Representatives Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability probe on the alleged misuse of provincial tobacco excise tax funds.

According to Imee, it was a last minute decision to bring Enrile in the probe and it was just an unsolicited advise from somebody.

"Si JPE, last minute eh. Nagkakalampagan. Somebody said, ‘Did you consult na si Manong Johnny?’ Tapos tinawagan ko and he said, ‘O, sama ako.’ Ganunan lang dahil last minute. Hindi ko nga naisip and I figured there’s nobody who knows these things better," Marcos told in an interview.

"Hindi naman pang-intimidating factor," she added.

The governor also said former Solicitor General Estelito Mendoza who is representing the six detained Ilocos Norte officials did not want to go to the house hearing.

"He didn’t want to come. He said hanggang korte lang siya, and that Congress is way beyond legal," she said.

On the other hand, Enrile also explained his stand.

"I was requested by the gov to assist her in this proceeding. I'm rendering this service to her pro-bono and in grateful appreciation and obligation to her deceased father, former President Ferdinand Marcos, whom I served under in various capacities."
