The former CamSur representative told reporters on July 28 that the CHR is a constitutional body which task is to prevent human rights abuses and hold those who commit such violations accountable.

Robredo added that it might look like the government is not taking good care of the poor if the CHR will be abolished.

President Rodrigo Duterte during a press conference after his 2nd SONA last July 24 said CHR was better to be abolished.

Duterte gave this statement as he continued to defend members of the military and the police amid allegations of human rights violations.
