Faeldon is honest according to Rody; Ping rants over the matter

President Rodrigo Duterte is still showing his support for resigned Customs commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, emphasizing he is an honest man, despite the accusations thrown to him.

According to Duterte, he have known Faeldon.

"I still believe that Faeldon is honest. I have known the guy," Duterte told troops in Marawi City.

Duterte's pronouncement came a day after Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed that there were rumors that the former BoC chief received P100 million as a welcome gift from suspected smugglers.

On the other hand, Faeldon declined the accusations from Lacson and countered him saying the senator's son, Pampi was guilty of cement smuggling that is worth billion of pesos.

The resigned BoC chief accused Pampi after Lacson gave his privilege speech pointing out Faeldon had received welcome gift.

Lacson also claimed Faeldon and several high-ranking Customs officials received weekly payola or “tara” from big importers for the trouble-free release of their shipments.

Durin the Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, Faeldon said he did not reveal what he knew about Pampi to avoid diversion of attention from the P64 billion shabu probe.

Lacson, on the other hand, expressed his irritation at Faeldon's suggestion that he was somehow behind the smuggling activities of his son.

Smuggler? I’m absolutely sure I never called Faeldon or any Customs official to intercede for my son in any of his transactions with BoC [Bureau of Customs]. Any assault on my integrity irritates me, to say the least. And I won’t take it sitting down, maybe not now, but I will definitely take action sooner or later,” said Lacson.
