Inday Sara turns down Rody's anticipated term extension

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte turned down the allegations about his father President Rodrigo Duterte on extending his term as president despite the pronouncements of administration allies on prolonging incumbents' term through Charter Change, January 10.

The presidential daughter emphasized that Duterte is eyeing for his retirement.

“He does not want a term extension for him. In fact pag nagawa na niya yung mga pinromise niya na gagawin niya para sa ating bansa…gusto na niya mag-retire,” she said in an ambush interview in Koronadal City.

The lady mayor added that Rody does not want the 2019 elections to be postponed because he respects the democracy in our country.

The allies of the administration want congress to convene into a constituent assembly to discuss amendments ti the 1987 Constitution that would pave the way for a federal form of goverrnment.

As part of the reform, incumbent officials will have an extended term inclduing the President.

Sara also said that it is best to let the Congress do its job for the new Constitution.

“Antayin na lang natin kung ano yung maporma na type of federalism na setup para sa ating bansa and then that will be submitted to a plebiscite,” she said, adding that the people’s decision on the matter should be respected.
